Seasonal contracts are signed September through November. Routes fill in the order they are booked and close once full, because adding a property in January pushes every other customer on that run later. Snow removal and salting are two jobs and they fail differently. A surface cleared at 5am and left untreated will often be more dangerous by 8am than one nobody touched, because what is left refreezes into a sheet. Salting services in the approved snow-service area have to account for temperature: rock salt stops working around 15F, which in this region is a normal January morning rather than an extreme. Below that we switch to a calcium chloride blend. De-icing in the approved snow-service area is priced into the contract for that reason, rather than appearing as a surprise line when the cold snap arrives.
